While Instagram Stories has been heavily explored in recent months, fewer and fewer brands use Instagram Live for business. This is a shame, really. Instagram Live is an incredible channel for getting new followers and improving engagement.
But we understand it completely! The idea of ”living” on Instagram can be very daunting. Especially if you’re not sure how you can use Instagram. While Instagram Stories gives you the option to post prerecorded videos, there are no “retakes” on Instagram Live. To help you get started with Instagram Live for business, this guide covers everything from how to use Instagram Live for business to tips and tricks to create your own Instagram Live video:
Note: Prior to a recent Instagram update, Live Instagram videos could not be played or shared after the broadcast. And while it created a sense of urgency for viewers to tune into, there is a ton of value in being able to share their live videos after the broadcast! In fact, this feature could make Instagram Live as big as Facebook Live!
Why use Instagram Live for Business?
Like Instagram Stories, there are many reasons to use Instagram Live for business. Not only is it a great channel for building a relationship of trust with your followers, you can also achieve achievements such as the generation of engagement and sales.
Like Instagram Stories and regular Instagram posts, you can achieve great engagement and viewers with an Instagram Instagram video. This is the easiest way to end up on the Instagram explorer page. So there are a lot of opportunities to make sales with Instagram Live. If you are able to promote your live broadcast in advance, creating a sense of urgency around it (offering promotions for a limited time, for example), you can make your followers watch your videos.
Another great thing about Instagram Live is how flexible it is. You can decide the diffusion that it will have, if it is a conference or workshop, or a product launch aimed at sales. So the sky is really the limit both in the content and in the objective of your live broadcast. Whether you want to share fun and light content, promote a marketing campaign or even boost e-commerce sales, you can do everything with Instagram Live.
How to use Instagram Live for Business
Like Instagram Stories, Instagram Live is an incredibly easy-to-use tool! But before you start issuing, there are some administrative elements that you should keep in mind.
You can also hide your live video to specific users in the same way you would with an Instagram story. Simply select “History settings” under “Account” and then “Hide history from” to select specific users that you do not want to see your live video.
Moderation of Comments
If you prefer not to see inappropriate words in the comments, you can activate comment moderation. This is something we really recommend doing, especially if your brand should be careful with the engagement. Open the Instagram settings, scroll to “Comments” and then change the “Hide inappropriate comments” from “Off” to “On”. You can also add custom keywords that you do not want to appear in the comments.
Now let’s look at how you can set up a Live Instagram broadcast.
- Swipe to the right from the home screen or touch the camera icon in the upper left corner of the screen to open the Instagram camera.
Select the “Live” camera option, and then tap “Start live video.” Unless you turn off notifications, your followers can be notified when you start a live video.
The number of spectators appears at the top of the screen and the comments appear at the bottom. You can tap “Comment” to add a comment yourself, and you can also post a comment by touching and holding a comment. This will set the comment to the top of your feed so viewers can see it more easily.
If you prefer to disable comments completely (it’s not something we recommend!), Touch the “ellipsis” icon, and then select “Disable comments”.
When finished, touch “End” in the upper right corner and then “End Live Video” to confirm. From there, you can touch Save on the top right to save it on your camera roll or share it with your story.
It’s very simple and you should not invest a fortune. Wait for our post next week, we will be talking about the strategic use of Instagram Live for Companies.
